| I liked Batman Begins and like many people I fucking loved The Dark Knight Rises, so of course I was hyped for the final of Christopher Nolan's Batman films. I had watched mixed reviews from thatguywiththeglasses.com; I made sure I watched more than just one positive review so my hopes wouldn't be too high. That said...
...Please don't kill me! Please! I just didn't like this movie, I don't hate it, and there are definitely great qualities but it just really let me down. Some of you may be thinking, "Oh, you're comparing it too much to the previous films" and you'd be wrong and right. As the conclusion to a trilogy I think it's more than fair and makes sense for it to be compared to the other films that it's directly connected to. That said, it most also be able to hold it's own, and it just didn't make the cut in either criteria for me personally. So now I'm going to be giving lots of spoilers.
- Spoiler:
Disappointing Factors
1. The first five-ten minutes of the film introduces Bane as our villian, there is nothing wrong with this, it's the next fifthteen-twenty minutes. It's lots, and lots of exposition something that no movie should have!
2. This whole movie feels like a rehash of Batma Begins, the League of Shadows is back to destroy Gotham except they don't have any real reason anymore to destroy Gotham. Because Gotham eight years after the events in The Dark Knight has become peaceful place to live, so it just boils down to revenge for Ra's al Ghul's death.
3. Let's face it, though Christopher Nolan is a great director, he lacks giving his female characters equal well character. Anne Hathaway's catwoman in terms of acting is ok by me, nothing special but I didn't have a problem with her portrayl. I do however dislike that catwoman could basically not be in this film and not much would be different, and only serves to in the end be redeemed by Batman (a bad girl just needs a man to set her in the right path) and be his love interest.
There is also Miranda/Talia who serves to be the big twist at the end, but as an audience member I didn't really care about her as a villian because she was so very last minute twist. It also takes away alot of the build-up for Bane as a villian.
4. Too many moments where I'm thinking THAT CAN'T HAPPEN! Why is Bane's voice projecting like there is a surround sound system everywhere he goes!? You cannot be shot down by a giant tank gun-thing and not have any blood on your well groomed police uniform! How did Bruce get back from the Middle East and find catwoman so fast! How did a small child crawl out of the pit with no preparation on the first try?! In what universe would a woman be put in a male prison, (besides plot conveniance) she would be so raped! How did Batman hide THAT in an alleyway!? WHY!? HOW?! WHY!?
5. I find it hard to believe that the Joker wouldn't have done some serious damage to Gotham after being set free from prison, if the scarecrow can be hanging around so can no would the Joker. It should have been established early in the movie that the Joker was placed in a federal prison away from Gotham City. I'm annouyed that he was never mentioned once, it really doesn't make sense.
6. When did Bruce become crippled? I don't remember that happening in The Dark Knight, as I was given the impression that Batman retired right after the events of the previous film? Seriously?
Things I Liked
1. Bane, at least until the end twist is very intimidating and fasinating as a villian even despite his distracting voice and my preference for less to be known about his past (or a better one). 2. The Bat, me likey!
3. I really enjoyed the detective John Blake, and his final scene especially.
4. I liked that catwoman wasn't very sexualized (in appearance), I'll give Nolan that when it comes to his female characters. The fanservice wasn't missed, not that she doesn't have good sex appeal on the contrary her body looked amazing and when she was stunning all dolled up.
